How Long Does a Rabies Vaccine Last?

Rabies vaccines are typically administered on one of the following schedules:

First rabies vaccine: Valid for 1 year
Booster rabies vaccines: Often valid for 3 years, depending on the vaccine used and your veterinarian’s recommendation

As long as your dog’s rabies vaccination is current on the date of your appointment, we’re good to go.

How Long Should I Wait After Vaccination Before Grooming?

We recommend waiting at least 48 hours after a rabies vaccination before bringing your dog in for grooming.

This allows time for:

Initial immunity to begin developing
Any mild soreness or fatigue to pass
Your dog to feel comfortable and relaxed during their visit

If your dog received multiple vaccines at once or tends to be sensitive, your veterinarian may recommend waiting a bit longer.

How Do I Find My Rabies Vaccination Information?

If you don’t have a copy of your dog’s rabies vaccination records:

Call or email your veterinarian — most clinics can send records the same day
Check your vet’s online portal if they have one
If your dog was vaccinated at a clinic or vaccine event, that provider can also reissue records
